EVorkshop’s trip to China!
Surely no one is surprised anymore that it is China that is dominating the introduction of new technologies in electric vehicles. It’s not just batteries, but also the necessary diagnostic equipment. As you know, we all should learn from the best, so the EVorkshop crew went to visit and learn more about this market and the solutions used there.
A few conclusions from this trip:
– The number of electric cars in big cities is about 50-60%, this is my subjective feeling, not supported by statistics. This is simply how it looks on the street.
– Large cities have taken internal combustion mopeds off the streets. The result? No roaring and fuming motorcycles, taking off with wild noise from under the lights at the intersection! I recommend checking and comparing with Paris, Rome, or Naples….
– The repair business built around electric cars is something completely new. Battery service operations require different equipment and skills, which are concentrated in central centers due to the high cost of entry into this sector: knowledge and equipment plus adequate fire safety and access to spare parts.
– Inherent in BEV service is a place for electronics technicians; measuring equipment, a soldering iron, small electronic components to be replaced or coding entire boards with microprocessors are all completely new tasks for an automotive service center.
A very informative visit with an element of relaxation in a restaurant styled like a German workshop! We were also in a typical restaurant serving local food, which involved a challenge to understand the menu 😊
